First Premier Home Warranty (FPHW) has been providing Americans with coverage for their systems and appliances for more than 30 years. It offers two plans: a premium plan covering most systems and appliances, and a slightly more expensive plan incorporating everything in the first plan plus your HVAC system, refrigerator, and clothes washer and dryer. First Premier also offers plenty of add-ons.

Unfortunately, First Premier doesn't provide a sample contract on its website. Furthermore, it provides very little information about liability caps, exclusions, and other terms and conditions.
From what we could gather from our research, FPHW provides coverage for normal wear and tear of appliances and systems that are in proper working condition before the policy begins. It appears that coverage comes into effect 30 days after First Premier receives your payment – which is the industry standard. First Premier states that it will pay up to $1,500 per claim, which is about average for the industry, although the annual claims limit is unclear and may vary for different customers. Like other home warranty providers, First Premier doesn't require you to do a home inspection.
First Premier offers two plans: Premier and Premier Platinum. The Premier plan covers your electrical and plumbing systems as well as a number of important appliances. Premier Platinum adds your heating and air conditioning systems as well as your refrigerator, clothes washer, and clothes dryer. Unlike many providers, FPHW doesn't offer separate systems-only or appliances-only plans.

Prices for FPHW are the same in all locations. When you sign up, you'll have two choices: (1) Premier or Premier Platinum plan; and (2) monthly or annual billing. You'll then be asked to select your home type (e.g., single-family home, condo, townhome) and lot size (less than 5,000 square feet or more than 5,000 square feet). Be warned: large homes are expensive to cover, with prices reaching up to $779/year for a condo or townhome above 5,000 square feet, or $1,299/year for a 4-family property above 5,000s square feet.
Here are the prices for a single-family home below 5,000 square feet:
Time | Premier | Premier Platinum |
Monthly billing | $52/month | $52/month |
Annual billing | $369/year | $449/year |
First Premier promises a special discount to healthcare professionals, first responders, and active-duty/veteran military members. It invites people in these categories to call customer support before signing up.
As mentioned, FPHW offers a lot of add-ons. Prices vary from $25 for items such as sump pump or well pump through to $100 for an entire septic system or $150 for an additional pool/spa.
First Premier Home Warranty covers work performed by any licensed contractor in its network. Unfortunately it doesn't state how many contractors it has in its network, so you may want to ask about availability in your area before signing up.
The good news is that you can process claims at any time of day or night with FPHW's 24/7 customer support.
You'll need to pay a $75 claims service fee each time a contractor visits, which is more or less the standard in the industry. You'll pay this out of pocket, and FPHW will pay for any repairs or replacements – up to the liability cap stated in your contract, of course. All work comes with a 90-day guarantee on parts and a 30-day guarantee on labor.

For a company that has been around for 30+ years, surprisingly few customers have written about FPHW on the internet. The reviews we did find were mixed, with some customers raving about quick response times but others complaining about their claims being rejected.
Here are a few of the positive customer reviews on Trustpilot:
“I was so impressed that within ten minutes the part had an approval. The tech contacted FPHW and while we were talking, the parts were approved. I was so impressed! Thirty minutes from the tech pulling up, condensing fan replaced and ac working. I am totally impressed with First Premier! I am a customer forever!” -Brad Stockton, Sep 26, 2021
For a company that has been around for 30+ years, FPHW has curiously few customer reviews online. Here are a couple of the positive reviews it has received on Trustpilot:
“Extremely fast service! They had someone down at my home for my AC unit same day! Great prices and best of all is that their rates never go up on you!! So happy with First Premier!” -Candy Reynolds, Jan 19, 2021
“Extremely pleased with First Premier! They sent someone down to my home the same day to service my washer machine that broke down. Jason was a tremendous help on the phone . Would definitely recommend to all.” -Ben Lowe, Feb 21, 2021
If you have a single-family home smaller than 5,000 feet, then First Premier Home Warranty may offer you cheaper coverage than other home warranty providers. With that said, you may want to weigh up the savings of choosing FPHW with the peace of mind of choosing a home warranty provider with a larger contractor network and a proven record of paying out on claims.
First Premier Home Warranty was founded in New York, NY in 1989. It offers coverage in 49 states and DC, but doesn't offer coverage in California. It has a B+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
